The weekend of October 10 -12 found the Twisters competing in one of their most challenging both physically and mentally, tournaments to date. The First Annual College Coaches Classic Exposure Tournament was held just west of Houston near Katy. Twenty four teams were there to vie for the win, bust most importantly, to catch the eyes and attention of the attending college scouts by showcasing their skills, sportsmanship, love of the game and INTENSITY.

The tournament was split up over two days with Saturday devoted to three pool games and Sunday to a dual bracket, single elimination tournament. One loss on Sunday and you were out. Go undefeated and others would go out and you would get closer and closer to the 'ship.

The wet drizzly weather on Saturday did not dampen the spirits of the Twisters. In fact you can say they were energized by it winning two out of the three games. These pool games were a good vehicle for putting girls in different positions thereby enhancing their utility status and availability to play just about anywhere they are needed.

Sunday was the day of reckoning and, after some early morning cool and damp weather the day turned out fine for softball. Play began at 8AM sharp and there was hardly enough time to check out of our hotels between games. The first game that morning set the pace for the rest of the day with defense dominating and the clutch hits coming just when they were needed. Except for one blowout game spectacular defense was the word of the day. Due to some prior obligations not all of the team was able to make it but the nine that were there played tough and played hard and never complained. These girls were eating steel nails for snacks.

The Twisters remained undefeated to make it to the championship game against one of the better teams from our neighboring state to the east, The Louisiana United Gold. This was probably the best game of the tournament going down to the wire with the United Gold finally winning 2-1 in extra innings.

This was an OUTSTANDING nine game performance over the span of two days. With 37 innings of play the Twisters scored a total of 20 runs while giving up only 10 runs. Out of the nine games played four were shutouts due to some excellent defense and pitching by our depleted lineup. Special kudos go out to Blaire Luna who pitched most of the last four games sending 26 players to the dugout on strikeouts.

We'd like to thank the players and the parents who were able to take the time out to travel to Houston and participate in this tournament. We look forward to many more attention getting showcase tournaments in the next few weeks.
